Dr. Amit Dey is a Professor of History, the Department of History, Centre For Advanced Studies, University of Calcutta, India. He received a Ph.D. in History in September 1999 from the University of London for his work on The Image of the Prophet in Bengali Muslim Piety; 1850-1947 and completed his doctoral research as a Commonwealth Scholar being affiliated to the Department of History, Royal Holloway, University of London. His area of specialization is islam and islamic Mysticism in Medieval and Modern South Asia.
